Chronic mesenteric ischemia:interpretation of the Clinical Practice Guidelines by the Society for Vascular Surgery

Abstract:Chronic mesenteric ischemia(CMI)is typically caused by the atherosclerotic occlusive disease at the origins of mesenteric arteries.With the increasing trend of population aging,the incidence of CMI is rising annually.The Clinical Practice Guidelines for Chronic Mesenteric Ischemia issued by the Society for Vascular Surgery(SVS)aims to provide the best evidence for the diagnosis and treatment of CMI.The guidelines primarily cover the following aspects:diagnosis and management of CMI,endovascular or open surgical revascularization,perioperative patient management,follow-up strategies,salvage therapy for restenosis,and future perspectives.Its publication can facilitate the optimization of diagnosis,treatment and comprehensive management for CMI patients.To promote its clinical application,this article elaborates and interprets the key points of the guidelines in detail.
