Abstract:Inguinal hernia,a common condition in general surgery,is typically caused by weakened abdominal wall strength and increased intra-abdominal pressure(e.g.,obesity,chronic cough,or intense physical activity). This leads to protrusion of abdominal organs(such as intestinal loops)through defects in the inguinal region, forming a palpable mass.Patients commonly present with localized bulging, and post-exertional dragging discomfort or pain, and may develop complications like ischemic necrosis due to intestinal incarceration in severe cases. In recent years,single-incision laparoscopic surgery has gained significant attention for its minimally invasive advantages. In particular,single-incision laparoscopic totally extraperitoneal hernioplasty(SIL-TEP)accesses the preperitoneal space through a single umbilical incision without entering the abdominal cavity, substantially reducing risks of intestinal adhesion and visceral injury. This technique combines the benefits of minimal trauma, rapid recovery and concealed scarring.Although technically challenging,SIL-TEP has emerged as an important development direction in inguinal hernia treatment with ongoing instrument refinements and accumulated surgical expertise.
