Analysis of anxiety and depression in elderly fracture patients and its influencing factors

Abstract:Objective To analyze whether elderly fracture patients have anxiety and depression and the influencing factors,providing strong evidence for clinical work.Methods This study enrolled 304 elderly fracture patients receiving treatment at the Department of Orthopedics,Third Affiliated Hospital of Baotou Medical College from January 2020 to October 2024.Upon admission,demographic data(gender,age,education level)and clinical characteristics(number of underlying diseases,smoking/alcohol history)were collected.During hospitalization,pain intensity,sleep quality and illness acceptance were recorded.Preoperative assessments using the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS)and Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS)were conducted.Results Elderly fracture patients had anxiety and depression,and age,gender,underlying diseases,pain and disease acceptance were independent influencing factors for anxiety(P<0.05).Age,gender,underlying diseases,pain and disease acceptance were independent influencing factors for depression(P<0.05).Conclusions Elderly fracture patients may experience anxiety and depression,and clinical doctors should be reminded to pay attention to the occurrence of such situations.Early screening and intervention should be carried out for corresponding influencing factors to reduce the occurrence of such situations,which is worth the attention and promotion of clinical doctors.
