Abstract:Allicin is a natural organic sulfide extracted from garlic. It possesses multiple functions such as promoting growth, aiding digestion,anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial, and improving rumen fermentation and fatty acid composition. In recent years,as the demand for green,safe,residue-free and non-resistant feed additives in the livestock and poultry breeding industry has been increasing, allicin,as a natural plant extract, has received extensive attention in livestock production. This article reviews the biological functions of allicin, including broad-spectrum antimicrobial,antioxidant,anti-inflammatory,intestinal health maintenance, and promotion of growth. It focuses on discussing its application effects in pigs, chickens, ruminants production, analyzes the existing problems in current research and application, and prospects for future development directions. The aim is to provide a reference for the in-depth research and broader application of allicin in the healthy farming of livestock and poultry.
