Abstract:This experiment aimed to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation with different levels of chlorogenic acid on the growth performance, immune, and antioxidant function in Hu lambs.A total of 80 weaned Hu lambs were randomly divided into four groups, with five replicates per group and four lambs per replicate. The control group was fed a basal diet, while the chlorogenic acid groups 1,2 and 3 were supplemented with 500,1 000 and 2 000 mg/kg chlorogenic acid in the basal diet, respectively. The pre-test period was five days, and the formal test days was 42 days. The results showed that compared with the control group, the average daily gain in chlorogenic acid groups 2 and 3 was significantly increased(P<0.05)and the diarrhea rate was extremely decreased(P<0.01).The feed-to-gain ratio in chlorogenic acid group 2 was significantly decreased(P<0.05).Compared with the control group, the ruminal papilla width and length in chlorogenic acid groups 2 and 3 were significantly increased(P<0.05),and the ruminal papilla surface area in each supplemented group was extremely increased(P<0.01).The serum immunoglobulin G content in chlorogenic acid groups 2 and 3 was significantly increased(P<0.05),while the concentrations of interleukin-2,interleukin-6,and tumor necrosis factor-α were significantly decreased(P<0.05).The content of interleukin-1β was extremely decreased in each supplemented group(P<0.01).Compared with the control group, the content of interleukin-1β in the liver of each supplemented group was extremely reduced(P<0.01),while the concentrations of interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α in chlorogenic acid groups 2 and 3 were significantly reduced(P<0.05).Compared with the control group, the content of malondialdehyde in the serum of chlorogenic acid groups 2 and 3 was significantly reduced(P<0.05),and the activity of superoxide dismutase was significantly increased(P<0.05).The content of malondialdehyde in the liver of chlorogenic acid group 2 was significantly reduced(P<0.05),and the activity of glutathione peroxidase was significantly increased(P<0.05).The study indicates that dietary supplementation with an appropriate amount of chlorogenic acid can effectively improve the average daily gain, reduce the diarrhea rate, enhance immune function, promote rumen development, and improve the antioxidant stress capacity of lambs.
