Abstract:This experiment aimed to investigate the effects of Asparagus officinalis peel on the production performance, serum biochemical indexes, and antioxidant capacity in beef cattle.A total of 120 healthy Simmental hybrid bulls were randomly divided into four groups, with 10 replicates per group and three cattle per replicate. The control group was fed a basal diet, while experimental groups Ⅰ,Ⅱ,and Ⅲ had Asparagus officinalis peel replacing 4%,8%,and 12%of the crude protein in the basal diet, respectively. The pre-test period was 15 days, and the formal test period was 100 days. The results showed that the average daily gain in the experimental group Ⅰ was significantly higher than that in the experimental group Ⅲ(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in serum biochemical indexes among the groups(P>0.05).The serum malondialdehyde content in the experimental group Ⅲ was significantly lower than that in the control group(P<0.05),while no significant differences in total antioxidant capacity, and the activities of glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase between the groups(P>0.05).The study indicates that Asparagus officinalis peel can improve production performance, enchance serum antioxidant capacity, and has no negative effects on serum biochemical indexes of beef cattle.Among them, the best effect is achieved when Asparagus officinalis peel replaces 4%crude protein in the basal diet of beef cattle.
