Abstract:This experiment aimed to investigate the effects of partial replacement of fish meal with chicken intestine meal(CIM)on the growth performance, intestinal health, and antioxidant capacity of Litopenaeus vannamei.A total of 1 440 healthy juvenile shrimp with an initial body weight of(2.49±0.02)g were randomly divided into four groups, with three replicates per group and 120 shrimp per replicate. The control group(group FM)was fed a basal diet containing 34%fish meal, while the experimental groups had 5%(group CIM5),10%(group CIM10),and 15%(group CIM15)of the fish meal protein in the basal diet replaced by CIM.The pre-test period was one week, and the formal test period was eight weeks. The results showed that the final body weight(FBW),weight gain rate(WGR),and specific growth rate(SGR)were not significantly difference between groups FM and CIM5(P>0.05),but significantly higher than those in group CIM15(P<0.05).The trypsin(TPS)activity in all experimental groups was significantly lower than in group FM(P<0.05),while the lipase(LPS)activity in group CIM10 was significantly higher than in other groups(P<0.05).Obvious villus atrophy was observed in group CIM15,while the villus height(VH)in group CIM5 was significantly greater than in other groups(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in catalase(CAT)and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px)activities between groups FM and CIM5(P>0.05),but both were significantly higher than in groups CIM10 and CIM15(P<0.05).The gene expression levels of nuclear factor E2-related factor 2(Nrf2)and heat shock protein 70(hsp70)in all experimental groups were significantly higher than in group FM(P<0.05),while the gene expression level of the mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR)was significantly lower than in group FM(P<0.05).The study indicates that a high replacement ratio of CIM(>5%)reduces hepatopancreatic TPS activity and antioxidant capacity, damages intestinal structure, and inhibits protein synthesis, leading to decreased growth performance of Litopenaeus vannamei. Therefore, the suitable level of CIM replacement for fish meal protein in the diet of Litopenaeus vannamei juveniles is 5%.
