Abstract:The experiment aimed to investigate the effects of starvation and refeeding on the serum antioxidant indexes, aquaculture water, and intestinal microbiota in hybrid sturgeon.A total of 450 healthy hybrid sturgeons with an initial body weight of(12.52±1.35)g and initial body length of(12.93±1.41)cm were randomly divided into five groups, with three replicates per group and 30 fish per replicate. The control group(group 1)was continuously fed the basal diet for 30 days, while the experimental groups(groups 2~5)were starved for 5,10,15,and 20 days, respectively, followed by refeeding to the basal diet for 30 days. The pre-test period was 14 days, and the refeeding period was 30 days. The results showed that compared with group 1,the final weight and final body length of groups 2 and 3 showed no significant differences(P>0.05),while those of groups 4 and 5 were significantly reduced(P<0.05).The feed conversion rate was significantly increased in groups 3,4,and 5(P<0.05).After starvation, the serum antioxidant indexes of groups 2 to 5 generally showed a downward trend. After refeeding, the superoxide dismutase(SOD)and catalase(CAT)activities, and total antioxidant capacity(T-AOC)showed a trend of first increasing and then decreasing with prolonged starvation time, while the content of reduced glutathione(GSH)showed a trend of first decreasing and then increasing. As the feeding time increased, the abundance of Proteobacteria decreased and the abundance of Firmicutes increased in group 1 of the intestinal microbiota. As hunger time prolongs, the abundance of Proteobacteria in the intestine first increases and then decreases, and the abundance of Clostridium decreased. After starvation and refeeding, the abundance of Proteobacteria decreased and the abundance of Bacteroidetes increased in the water. The study indicates that short-term starvation(5 to 10 days)can induce a compensatory growth effect in hybrid sturgeon, and these results can provide a reference for developing feeding strategies in the intensive aquaculture of hybrid sturgeon.
