Abstract:The experiment aimed to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation with Clostridium butyricum preparations on the production performance, serum indices, intestinal morphology, and cecal metabolites of laying hens.A total of 108 healthy 54-week-old laying hens were selected and randomly divided into two groups, with nine replicates per group and six hens per replicate. The control group(group CON)was fed a basal diet, while the experimental group(group F)was fed the basal diet supplemented with 1 g/kg of Clostridium butyricum preparation(with a viable count of 1 × 109 CFU/g).The pre-test period lasted for seven days, and the formal test period lasted for 56 days. The results showed that compared with the group CON,the laying rate of the group F was significantly increased during the 5th to 8th weeks(P<0.05),and the average daily feed intake was significantly decreased(P<0.05),the yolk color, yolk weight, and yolk specific gravity were all significantly increased(P<0.05).In the group F,the serum alanine transaminase(ALT)activity and triglyceride(TG)content were significantly decreased(P<0.05),while the glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px)activity was significantly increased(P<0.05).The villus height(VH)of the jejunum, ileum, and cecum in the group F was significantly higher than that in the group CON(P<0.05),and the villus height to crypt depth ratio(VH/CD)of the ileum and cecum was significantly higher than that in the group CON(P<0.05).The Clostridium butyricum preparations were positively correlated with the contents of 4-methyldopaic acid, jasmonic acid, and trimethylamine salt of tryptophan and other metabolites(P<0.05),and metabolic pathways such as alpha-linolenic acid metabolism, glycerophospholipid metabolism, and linoleic acid metabolism were significantly enriched(P<0.05).The study shows that dietary supplementation with Clostridium butyricum preparations can effectively improve the production performance, egg quality, and serum indices of laying hens, promote the development of intestinal morphology, and regulate the composition of cecal metabolites and related metabolic pathways.
