Abstract:This experiment aimed to investigate the effects of sweet orange oil on the growth performance, digestive enzyme activity, and muscle nutritional composition in Oreochromis niloticus.A total of 180 healthy Oreochromis niloticus with an average weight of around 240 g were randomly divided into four groups, with three replicates per group and 15 fish per replicate. The control group(group A)was fed a basal diet, while the experimental groups received a basal diet supplemented with 0.1%(group B),0.3%(group C),and 0.5%(group D)sweet orange oil, respectively. The pre-test period was seven days, and the formal test period was 50 days. The results showed that with the increase of the proportion of sweet orange oil added, the weight gain rate(WGR),specific growth rate(SGR),and feed efficiency(FE)of Oreochromis niloticus gradually increased. The group D increased by 13.97%,9.72%,and 15.77%respectively compared to group A.The activities of α-amylase(AMS),lipase(LPS),and trypsin(TPS)all increased with the increase in sweet orange oil addition ratio.Among them, the TPS activity in group D was the highest(1 270.95 U/mg),significantly higher than other groups(P<0.05).The crude fat content of muscles in each experimental group was significantly lower than that in group A(P<0.05),and the essential amino acid(EAA),semi essential amino acid(HEAA)concentrations, and essential amino acid index(EAAI)showed an increasing trend. The total amount of amino acids(TAA),EAA,HEAA,and umami amino acids(DAA)in group D were the highest. The study indicates that adding sweet orange oil to basal diet can improve the growth performance, enhance digestive enzyme activity, and optimize muscle nutritional components of Oreochromis niloticus. The effect is better when the addition ratio of sweet orange oil is 0.5%.
