Abstract:The experiment aimed to investigate the effects of compound extracts of honeysuckle and Scutellaria baicalensis on the laying performance, egg quality, lipid metabolism, and intestinal morphology of laying hens in the late laying period.A total of 2 000 healthy 60-week-old Jingfen No.6 laying hens were selected and randomly divided into four groups, with five replicates per group and 100 chickens per replicate. The control group was fed with a basic diet, while the experimental groups 1,2,and 3 were added with 250,500,and 1 000 mg/kg of compound extracts of honeysuckle and Scutellaria baicalensis, respectively. The pre-test period was one week, and the formal test period was eight weeks. The results showed that compared with the control group, the laying rate of experimental groups 2 and 3 was significantly increased by 4.34%and 4.67%(P<0.05),respectively,and the average daily egg weight was significantly increased by 3.94%and 4.32%(P<0.05),while the feed to egg ratio was significantly decreased by 3.10%and 3.54%(P<0.05).Compared with the control group, the yolk color of experimental groups 2 and 3 was extremely enhanced(P<0.01),and the protein height and Haugh unit of experimental group 2 were significantly increased(P<0.05).Compared with the control group, the egg yolk cholesterol content in experimental groups 2 and 3 was extremely reduced(P<0.01),the serum cholesterol content in all experimental groups was significantly reduced(P<0.05).The serum triglyceride content in experimental groups 2 and 3 was significantly reduced(P<0.05),while the high-density lipoprotein cholesterol content was significantly increased(P<0.05).Compared with the control group, the depth of ileal crypts in experimental groups 2 and 3 was significantly reduced(P<0.05),and the villus height to crypt depth ratio was significantly increased(P<0.05).The height of jejunal villi in each experimental group was significantly increased(P<0.05),and the villus height to crypt depth ratio in experimental groups 2 and 3 was significantly increased(P<0.05).The study indicates that the compound extracts of honeysuckle and Scutellaria baicalensis can improve the production performance and egg quality, regulate lipid metabolism, and improve the intestinal morphology of Jingfen No.6 laying hens in the late laying period. The suitable addition amount is 500 mg/kg.
