Abstract:The experiment aimed to investigate the effects of compound Chinese herbal medicine ultrafine powder on the growth performance, meat quality, and fiber type composition in the longissimus dorsi muscle of pigs, and to analyze the correlations between fiber types and growth performance and meat quality.A total of 48 pigs with an initial body weight of(30.73±1.33)kg were selected and randomly divided into two groups, with three replicates per group and eight pigs per replicate. The control group was fed a basal diet, while the experimental group was fed the basal diet supplemented with 0.5%compound Chinese herbal medicine ultrafine powder. The pre-test period was seven days, and the formal test period was 120 days. The results showed that compared with the control group, the final body weight(FBW),average daily weight gain(ADG),eviscerated body weight(EBW),and backfat thickness(BFT)of the experimental group were significantly increased(P<0.05),while the feed-to-gain ratio(F/G)was decreased by 6.49%.In the experimental group, the collagen fiber and type Ⅰ muscle fiber, and muscle fiber density in the longissimus dorsi muscle were significantly increased(P<0.05),whereas the type Ⅱ a muscle fiber and muscle fiber diameter were significantly decreased(P<0.05).The muscle shear force, drip loss, and meat yellowness(b*)value of the experimental group were significantly decreased(P<0.05),while the marbling score and meat redness(a*)value were significantly increased(P<0.05).The type Ⅰ muscle fiber in the experimental group was significantly positively correlated with ADG,EBW,and marbling score(P<0.05),and significantly negatively correlated with shear force and b*value(P<0.05).The collagen fiber was significantly positively correlated with ADG(P<0.05),extremely positively correlated with EBW(P<0.01),and significantly negatively correlated with shear force(P<0.05).The study indicates that adding compound Chinese herbal medicine ultrafine powder to the diet can improve growth performance and meat quality in piglets. There is a certain correlation between the different muscle fiber types and growth performance and meat quality.
