Abstract:The experiment aimed to investigate the effects of Eucommia ulmoides leaf extract(EULE)on the growth performance, serum biochemical indexes, antioxidant capacity, and immune function of gray goats.A total of 40 male gray goats aged six months were selected and randomly divided into four groups, with 10 replicates per group and one goat per replicate. The control group(group CK)was fed a basal diet, while test groups Ⅰ,Ⅱ,and Ⅲ were fed the basal diet supplemented with 100,250,and 500 mg/kg EULE,respectively. The pre-test period was three days, and the formal test period was 30 days. The results showed that the serum glucose content in test groups Ⅱ and Ⅲ was significantly higher than that in the group CK and test group Ⅰ(P<0.05).Compared with the group CK,the serum triglyceride and total cholesterol concentrations in test group Ⅲ were significantly decreased(P<0.05),while there was no significant difference among the other test groups(P>0.05).The activities of serum glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px)and superoxide dismutase(SOD),and total antioxidant capacity(T-AOC)in test group Ⅲ were significantly increased(P<0.05),while the malondialdehyde(MDA)content was significantly decreased(P<0.05).The serum concentrations of tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),interleukin-1β(IL-1β),interleukin-6(IL-6),and interleukin-2(IL-2)in all test groups were significantly decreased(P<0.05).The study indicates that EULE can improve the serum antioxidant and anti-inflammatory capacities of gray goats, with the optimal addition level is 500 mg/kg.
