Effects of Chuanwu Houhe decoction on growth performance,intestinal barrier,and immune function of broiler chickens infected with necrotizing enteritis

Abstract：The experiment aimed to investigate the effects of Chuanwu Houhe decoction on the growth performance,intestinal barrier,and immune function of broiler chickens infected with necrotizing enteritis.A total of 144 one-day-old male white-feathered broiler chickens were selected,acclimatized for 13 days,and then randomly divided into six groups on the 14th day:The blank control group(group NC),model group(group NE),bacitracin methylene disalicylate soluble powder group(group BMD),and low-dose,medium-dose,and high-dose Chuanwu Houhe decoction groups(groups LC,MC and HC),with three replicates per group and eight broilers per replicate.The group NC was gavaged with 1 mL/d of sterilized phosphate buffer salt solution(PBS)on the 14th day and from days 17 to 23,the other groups were gavaged with 1 mL/d of Eimeria maxima sporulated oocyst solution(1x10 5/mL)on the 14th day,and 1 mL/d of Clostridium perfringens type A bacterial solution(1 x 109 CFU/mL)daily from days 17 to 23.From days 24 to 28,the group BMD was administered 0.2 g/L of bacitracin methylene disalicylate soluble powder of drinking water,while the groups LC,MC,and HC were given 5,10,and 15 mL/L of Chuanwu Houhe Decoction of drinking water,respectively,the remaining groups received normal drinking water.The formal test period was 15 days.The results showed that compared with the group NE,the final weight and average daily weight gain in the groups NC and HC were significantly increased(P＜0.05),and the feed-to-gain ratio was significantly decreased(P＜0.05).The intestinal lesion scores in the groups NC,MC,and HC was significantly decreased(P＜0.05),the mRNA expression levels of zonula occludens-1 and mucin-2 in jejunal tissues were significantly increased(P＜0.05),while the concentrations of interleukin-iβ,interleukin-6,and tumor necrosis factor-α were significantly decreased(P＜0.05).Compared with the group NE,the serum concentrations of immunoglobulin A,immunoglobulin G and immunoglobulin M in the groups NC,LC,MC,and HC were significantly increased(P＜0.05),and the content of fluorescein isothiocyanate-dextran was significantly decreased(P＜0.05).The study indicates that Chuanwu Houhe decoction can significantly improve the growth performance and immune function of broiler chickens infected with necrotic enteritis,and repair the intestinal barrier,with the high-dose showing better improvement effects.
