Abstract:The study aimed to investigate the effects of different planting patterns in walnut forests in southern Xinjiang on the quality of double-cropped silage maize.Three planting density gradients were tested:75 000,90 000,and 105 000 plants/hm2(Ml,M2,M3)and four planting patterns:Uniform row spacing, offset adjacent rows,wide-narrow row spacing, and three plants per hole(E,S,W,T).Silage maize quality was systematically evaluated through sensory evaluation, laboratory analysis, and nutritional quality assessment. The results showed that the comprehensive laboratory score of the WM1 group was significantly higher than that in the group EMI(P<0.05).The crude protein content in the group WM1 was significantly higher than that of the group EM3(P<0.05),the soluble sugar content was significantly higher than that in the group TM3(P<0.05),and the starch content was significantly higher than that in the group SM3(P<0.05).Principal component analysis showed that the group WM1 scored the highest in the comprehensive evaluation with a cumulative contribution rate of 92.534%,and its'high nutrition-low fiber'characteristic was better than that of other groups. The study indicates that planting silage maize using the wide-narrow row spacing pattern at a density of 75 000 plants/hm2 within walnut forests can produce high-quality silage.
