Abstract:The experiment aimed to investigate the effects of different doses coated sodium butyrate on the growth performance, intestinal development, and serum protein metabolism of ctalurus punctatus.A total of 300 healthy initial weight(133.45±3.13)g ctalurus punctatus were selected and randomly divided into five groups, with three replicates per group and 20 channel catfish per replicate. The control group was fed with a basic diet, while the experimental groups were supplemented with 0.10%,0.25%,0.50%,and 0.75%coated sodium butyrate in the basic diet, respectively,to prepare five types of nitrogen and energy equal diet. The test period was 56 days. The results showed that compared with the control group, the 0.25%group achieved the highest values in weight gain rate, specific growth rate, intestinal villus height, and villous to hidden ratio, with a significant increase of 35.74%,28.36%,38.04%,and 95.11%,respectively(P<0.05).The total protein and globulin concentrations were significantly increased(P<0.05),with an increase of 14.29%and 20.41%,respectively.The feed coefficient, serum creatinine, and uric acid concentrations were significantly reduced(P<0.05),with a reduction of 27.54%,59.21%,and 57.58%,respectively.The study shows that adding a certain dose of coated sodium butyrate to the diet can improve the growth performance, promote intestinal development and serum protein metabolism of ctalurus punctatus. The optimal dosage of coated sodium butyrate is 0.25%.
