Abstract:This study compared rice paddy and pond culture systems for their effects on the growth performance, immunity, and antioxidant capacity in Cyprinus carpio var.Jinbian and Cyprinus carpio var.Jian.Two hundred two-month-old juvenile fish of each variety were randomly divided into two groups(100 fish per group). They were raised in ponds and rice fields, with stocking densities of 1 000 fish/667 m2 and 400 fish/667 m2,respectively.Results showed that rice paddy-cultured Cyprinus carpio var.Jinbian and Cyprinus carpio var.Jian exhibited significantly lower final body weight(FBW),weight gain rate(WGR),specific growth rate(SGR),condition factor(CF),and hepatosomatic index(HSI)compared to pond-cultured groups(P<0.05).Serum alanine aminotransferase(ALT)and aspartate aminotransferase(AST)activities were significantly reduced in the rice paddy group(P<0.05).Pond-cultured Cyprinus carpio var.Jinbian showed significantly elevated serum urea nitrogen(BUN)and cortisol(COR)levels versus other groups(P<0.05),while pond-cultured Cyprinus carpio var.Jian had higher serum glucose(GLU)(P<0.05).Rice paddy-cultured Cyprinus carpio var.Jinbian displayed significantly higher serum complement C3 content(P<0.05).Hepatic total antioxidant capacity(T-AOC)was significantly enhanced in the rice paddy group(P<0.05),but total superoxide dismutase(SOD)activity was significantly suppressed(P<0.05).The expression abunages of manganese superoxide dismutase(Mn-SOD),catalase(CAT),glutathione peroxidase 1(Gpx1),glutathione peroxidase 4a(Gpx4a),glutathione peroxidase 4b(Gpx4b),and peroxide oxidation-reductase 6(Prd6x)genes in the liver of Cyprinus carpio var.Jinbian in the rice paddy-cultured were significantly lower than that of the pond-cultured group(P<0.05).The expression abundance of CAT and Gpx4a genes in rice paddy-cultured Cyprinus carpio var.Jian were significantly lower than that in the pond-cultured group(P<0.05).The expression abundances of Prdx6,Mn-SOD and Gpx1 genes in the intestines of Cyprinus carpio var.Jinbian in the rice paddy-cultured were significantly higher than those in pond-cultured group(P<0.05).The expression abundance of the CAT gene in the rice paddy-cultured group was significantly lower than that in the pond-cultured group(P<0.05).The studies show that therice paddy-cultured model restricts the growth performance of Cyprinus carpio var.Jinbian and Cyprinus carpio var.Jian, but the oxidative stress on fish in this environment is lower than that in the pond-cultured model.Compared with the Cyprinus carpio var.Jian, the Cyprinus carpio var.Jinbian has higher growth indicators and stronger antioxidant capacity in rice paddy-cultured,and possesses good production adaptability and development potential.
