Abstract:The experiment aimed to investigate the effects of epigallocatechin gallate(EGCG)and resveratrol(RES)on the growth performance, physiological indicators, and serum indicators in Hu sheep under heat stress conditions.A total of 30 three-month-old male Hu sheep weighing(19.50±0.19)kg were randomly divided into three groups, with 10 replicates per group and one sheep per replicate. The control group(CON group)was fed the basal diet, while the 800E group was fed the concentrated feed supplemented with 800 mg/kg EGCG and the 150R group was fed the concentrated feed supplemented with 150 mg/kg RES.The pre-trial period was 10 days, and the formal trial period was 60 days. The results showed that the Hu sheep were in a moderate heat stress state throughout the trial period. The final weight, total weight gain, and average daily gain of the 800E and the 150R groups were significantly higher than those of the CON group(P<0.05),and the feed-to-gain ratio was significantly lower than that of the CON group(P<0.05).The respiratory rate of the Hu sheep in the 800E and the 150R groups was significantly lower than that of the CON group(P<0.05),and the activities of superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, catalase, and the total antioxidant capacity were significantly higher than those of the CON group(P<0.05).The concentrations of malondialdehyde,interleukin-1β,interleukin-6,tumor necrosis factor-α,and heat shock proteins(HSP70 and HSP90)were significantly lower than those of the CON group(P<0.05).The study indicates that EGCG and RES can improve the growth performance, and enhance antioxidant and anti-inflammatory abilities of Hu sheep under heat stress conditions.
