Abstract:To explore the extraction process and antibacterial and antioxidant activities of polyphenols of Plerospermum heterophyllum Hance. This study used microwave-assisted extraction method to optimize the extraction process of polyphenols of Plerospermum heterophyllum Hance based on single factor experiments through response surface methodology. The antioxidant capacity of polyphenols of Plerospermum heterophyllum Hance was measured using hydroxyl radical and DPPH radical scavenging rate as indicators, and the antibacterial capacity was measured using inhibition zone diameter, minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC),and minimum bactericidal concentration(MBC)as indicators. The results showed that the optimal extraction parameters for polyphenols of Plerospermum heterophyllum Hance were ethanol volume fraction of 44%,liquid-solid ratio of 60 mL/g,extraction time of 2.7 minutes, extraction power of 266 W,and polyphenol yield of 1.26%.Compared with L-ascorbic acid, the polyphenols of Plerospermum heterophyllum Hance have a certain hydroxyl radical and DPPH radical scavenging rate, and have antioxidant activity. The diameters of the bacteriostatic circles of polyphenols of Plerospermum heterophyllum Hance against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli were 9.50 and 8.00 mm respectively, the MIC was 0.469 and 0.938 g/L respectively, and the MBC was 1.875 and 0.938 g/L respectively. The results show that the polyphenols of Plerospermum heterophyllum Hance have both antioxidant and antibacterial activities and can be developed into feed additives for animal production.
