Abstract:The experiment aimed to investigate the antibacterial activity of 4-substituted terpyridine zinc-metal complexes. The MICs of these metal complexes against Staphylococcus aureus,Salmonella,Escherichia coli,Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Vibrio parahaemolyticus, and Streptococcus agalactiae were determined by the microbroth dilution method. The study observed the effects of the metal complexes on bacterial growth, bacterial cell morphology, cell membrane permeability, and intracellular protein expression after the interaction with the complexes, aiming to explore the antibacterial mechanism against Staphylococcus aureus. The results showed that 4-substituted terpyridine zinc-metal complexes exhibited the higher antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Vibrio parahaemolyticus.Following the interaction with the complexes,Staphylococcus aureus showed delayed growth, bacterial cells underwent shrinkage and rupture, increased cell membrane permeability, and reduced intracellular protein expression. The study indicates that 4-substituted terpyridine zinc-metal complexes may inhibit bacterial activity by disrupting the bacterial cells or suppressing protein expression.
