Association between miRNA-146a gene polymorphism and infantile spasms

Abstract：Objective To investigate the association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of miR-146a gene (rs2910164 and rs57095329) and the risk of infantile spasms.Methods A case-control study was performed in this research.We collected 188 patients with infantile spasms and 214 healthy children served as controls in Department of Pediatrics,Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University.The genotypes of two SNPs in miR-146a gene were detected by PCR-RFLP.Results There were significant differences in frequencies of genotypes (GG,AG,AA) and allele (G) of rs57095329 between two groups (P ＜ 0.05).However no association was found between its genotype distribution and seizures frequency (P ＞ 0.05).There were no significant differences in frequencies of genotypes (CC,CG,CC) and allele (C) of rs2910164 between two groups (P ＞ 0.05).Conclusions SNP of rs57095329 in promoter of miR-146a is associated with infantile spasms,but not with seizures frequency.rs2910164 is not associated with infantile spasms.
