Abstract:Objective To study the relationships between cognitive emotion regulation strategies and depressive symptom. Methods Ninety inpatients with depressive episode and 90 matched health controls were conducted by Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire Chinese Version (CERQ) and Beck Depression inventory (BDI).Results The results showed that compared with controls, patients with depressive episode showed significantly higher scores of inadaptability strategies [(38.38 ± 11.68),(31.27 ±7.91);P < 0.01],and lower scores of adaptability strategies [(41.33± 10.79),(45.43± 12.08);P <0.05].Catastrophizing,positive reappraisal, and refocus on planning were significantly associated with depressive symptoms levels among the depressive episode sample (r =0.429,-0.402,-0.384,respectively;P < 0.01).Multiple linear regression analysis showed that catastrophizing and positive reappraisal were the most important variables for depressive symptom of the depressive episode sample, while rumination was the most important variable for the health sample. Conclusions Cognitive emotion regulation strategies is closely related to depression, improving positive reappraisal strategies may help to improve and alleviate the depressive symptoms level in patients with depressive episode.
