Efficacy of levetiracetam as add -on therapy in adult epilepsy

Abstract:Objective To explore the efficacy and safety of levetiracetam (LEV) as add-on thera‐py in adult patients with epilepsy .Methods A total of 116 cases of adult patients with epilepsy were in‐cluded from January 2010 to December 2013 .The patients were divided into observation group (leveti‐racetam adjunctive therapy group) and control group (conventional treatment group) with a random sam‐pling method ,The control rate ,the treatment effective rate and adverse reactions were compared be‐tween two groups .Results The total effective rate was 77 .6% in observation group ,51 .7% in control group .There was a significant difference between two groups (P< 0 .01) .The adverse reaction rate was 19 .0% in observer group and 17 .2% in control group .There was no significant difference between two groups (P > 0 .05) .Conclusions The efficacy and safety of LEV as add -on therapy in adult patients with epilepsy were better than the conventional treatment .
