Status of life quality and social support in family members of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder inpatients

Abstract：Objective To investigate the life quality and social support in family members of inpa‐tients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (manic episode ,depressive episode and mixed episode) . Methods The family members of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder inpatients were collected as sub‐jects .The basic research table ,the Mos 36-item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) and Social Sup‐port Rating Scale (SSRS) were assessed .Results (1) The life quality of psychosis family members was lower than the average in China (P< 0 .01) .(2) There was no significant difference on the social sup‐port between family members of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder inpatients and the norms (P> 0 .05) . With higher education level ,the social supporting situation was better ,however the regression coeffi‐cient was not significant (P > 0 .05) .The social supporting of family members of bipolar disorder inpa‐tients was better than that of schizophrenia (P = 0 .049) .Conclusions The life quality of family mem‐bers of schizophrenia and bipolar affective disorder inpatients was worrying ,which may be related with the characteristic of diseases .
