Characteristics of heart rate changes associated with periodic limb movement disorder during sleep in diabe-tes mellitus patients
Abstract:Objective To discuss the characteristics of heart rate changes associated with periodic limb movement disorder during sleep (PLMS) in diabetes mellitus (DM ) patients .Methods Totals of 20 cases of PLMS patients were divided into DM with PLMS group (case group) and primary PLMS group (control group) according to medical history and polysomnography (PSG ) examination .Observing the time when the heart rate associated with PLMS began to increase and return to baseline .The R-R in‐terval of heart rate was measured before 5 beats(T -5- -1)、onset and after 15 beats(T+1- +15)of each PLMS .The amplitude of heart rate relatively higher than baseline at different time points was cal‐culated ,and the magnitude of heart rate variability between two groups were compared .Results Five ca‐ses of case group (PLMS frequency was 488 times) and 6 cases of control group (PLMS frequency was 479 times) were included .The heart rate of two groups both began to increase at T -2 ,and the case group returned to baseline at T+13 ,while the control group at T+9- +10 .Compared with the control group ,the magnitude of heart rate variability was smaller at T +1 - +4、T+11 - +14 in case group , and the difference was statistically significant (P<0 .05) .Conclusions PLMS patients would show tach‐ycardia which reflect the activation of heart .Compared with non -DM patients ,DM patients have small variations in heart rate ,delayed time return to baseline and no significant bradycardia .
