Association of the CYBA gene C242T polymorphism with schizophrenia in Southern Chinese population
Abstract：Objective To investigate the potential association between the C242T polymorphism of CYBA gene and risk ,severity of schizophrenia.Methods Multiplex SNaPshot was used to determine the genotype and allele frequencies of CYBA gene C242T in 906 schizophrenic patients and 982 controls. Psychotic symptoms were evaluated in accordance with structured interview for the Positive and Negative Symptom Scale (PANSS).Results (1) There were no significant differences in genotype and allele fre-quencies for C242T polymorphism between the cases and controls (P > 0.05).(2)The C242T polymor-phism C/T and T/T carriers had higher negative symptom scores and total scores than C/C carriers (P <0.05).Conclusions There were no association between the C242T polymorphism of CYBA gene and risk of schizophrenia.C242T mutation of T may aggravate the negative symptoms of schizophrenia patients.
