Association between behavioral and psychological symptoms of Alzheimer disease and plasma homocysteine
Abstract:Objective To explore the relationship between behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) and plasma homocysteine(Hcy) .Methods Thirty -nine Alzheimer disease(AD) patients with BPSD ,thirty -six AD patients without BPSD ,and thirty -eight healthy controls were re‐cruited in the study .All participants were tested the level of Hcy ,and were assessed clinical symptoms and cognitive function .Results Our results evidenced that the Hcy levels in AD patients with BPSD and without BPSD were higher than the healthy controls .The Hcy level in AD patients with BPSD was the highest among the three groups (P < 0 .01) .The level of Hcy was negatively correlated with the cogni‐tive function (r = -0 .686 ,-0 .442 ,respectively ;P < 0 .01) .Conclusions The results supporte that Hcy is associated with BPSD ,and may take part in the pathogenesis of BPSD in AD .
