Efficacy of cognitive behavioral therapy on clinical symptoms and quality of life in patients with chronic prostatitis
Abstract:Objective To assess the efficacy of cognitive behavioral therapy on the symptoms , quality of life and erectile function of chronic prostatitis (CP) .Methods The 148 cases of CP patients were divided into control and experimental groups by stratified random in accordance with NIH -CPSI score .The control group employed conventional treatment for CP ,while the experimental groups com‐bined cognitive behavioral therapy with conventional treatment ,which was as same as the control group . After 4 weeks ,statistical analyses were used to evaluate the treatment effect of CP in both groups by comparing NIH -CPSI score ,CF-12 score and IIEF-5 score before and after treatment .Results Com‐paring with the control group , the NIH -CPSI score was statistically improved in the experimental group (P < 0 .01) .After treatment ,the PCS and MCS scores in the experimental group were higher than that in control group (P< 0 .05) .There was no statistically significant difference in IIEF -5 score before and after treatment in both groups (P> 0 .05) .Conclusions Cognitive behavioral therapy can im‐prove symptoms and quality of life of patients suffering from CP ,but cannot improve the erectile func‐tion .
