Relationship between alexithymia and coping style of male alcohol dependence patients

Abstract:Objective To discuss the relationship between alexithymia and coping style of male al‐cohol dependence patients , providing reliable objective basis for clinical nursing intervention . Methods Sixty-six cases of alcohol-dependent patients were investigated using Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20) and Coping Style Questionnaire ,analysesing the correlation between alexithymia and coping style with alcohol - dependent patients .Results The total score of Alexithymia Scale was (55.550 ± 13 .206) ,including the low group (less than 40 points) 10 cases (15 .2% ) ,the middle group (41-57) 28 cases (42 .4% ) ,and the high group (>57) 28 cases (42 .4% );There was no correlation between Alexithymia Scale factor score and total score with patients' age and education years (P <0.05) ,factor II score and drinking history were positively correlated (P < 0 .05);Factor II、Factor III score and total score with different number of hospitalized patients ,the differences were statistically sig‐nificant (P < 0 .05);Obstacles score and three factor scores were negatively associated with coping style (P < 0 .01);Alexithymia factor III was negatively correlated with problem -solving coping style (P <0 .05);Help coping styles subscales score in patients with different degrees ,the difference was statisti‐cally significant (P < 0 .05) .Conclusions Alexithymia is prevalent in patients with alcohol dependence , there is a significant interaction between alexithymia and coping style .
