Abstract:Objective This study was to investigate the characteristic of the regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) in patients with schizophrenia and the relationship among rCBF ratio, symptoms and efficacy. Methods The rCBF of 17 schizophrenics were measured with SPECT before and after treatment. The psychiatric symptoms of all patients were assessed with PANSS. The results were compared with 11 normal controls. Results Before treatment, the baseline rCBF of right frontal and temporal lobes were lower in schizophrenics than that of in controls. After treatment, rCBF of these two regions in schizophrenics were significantly improved. No significant correlation was found between rCBF in different brain regions and psychopathologic symptoms and efficacy as well. Conclusion The function of the right frontal and temporal lobes decreased in schizophrenia, but there was no significant correlation between rCBF and psychopathological symptoms and efficacy.
