The Psychometric Study of Somatoform Disorders in General Hospital in China
Abstract:Objective To investigate the psychometric characteristics of somatoform disorders (according to CCMD-3 criteria) and to explore their possible mechanism. Methods 30 patients with somatoform disorders from general hospital (somatized group) were measured with the MMPI, and the profiles were compared with 139 neurotic patients from counseling clinic (psychological group). Malingering was identified by the dissimulation index from the MMPI (F-K>+9). Results (1) The somatized patients had higher Hs & F than psychological group (P<0.05). (2) The malingering indexes between two groups did not show any differences (P>0.05). Conclusion Somatized patients from general hospital had similar MMPI profile with the psychological group from counseling clinic. The former did not show more malingering characteristic than the latter.
