Abstract:Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of age related dementia. As the life spanof individuals continues to increase, the number of potential AD patients increases as the does the cost oftheir health care. AD is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by deficit in cognition andhistology changes in the brain, including extracellular amyloid plaques that are composed of amyloid betapeptide and intracellular tangles that are composed of microtubule associated protein TAU. It is a hetero-geneous disease involving a number of genetic components, risk factors and other poorly defined elementsthat all impact on the accumulation of amyloid beta peptide (Abeta). Research on the molecular patho-genesis of Alzheimer's disease has made great strides over the last decade. Here we summarized the re-search on amyloid hypothesis of Alzheimer's disease, risk factor apolipoprotein E (ApoE), AD genetics, andintroduced other attracting risk factors.
