Research progress on drugs for the treatment of thyroid eye disease

Abstract:Thyroid eye disease(TED)is an autoimmune disease characterized by inflammation and remodeling of or-bital tissues.Severe cases may present with optic nerve compression, proptosis, and exposure keratopathy.Traditional treatments for TED primarily include glucocorticoids and immunosuppressants;although they can alleviate the inflamma-tion,they are largely symptomatic and do not address the underlying pathogenesis. In recent years, with a deeper under-standing of the pathogenesis of TED,novel targeted therapies have been developed.Multiple clinical studies have shown that biologics such as teprotumumab, rituximab, and tocilizumab exhibit significant efficacy in treating TED;monoclonal antibodies targeting insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor(IGF-1R),thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor(TSHR),and tu-mor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)have also shown therapeutic potential.Currently,TED drug treatment is evolving toward greater precision and safety, and multi-target combination therapy and biomarker-based personalized medicine may be-come future trends.
