Abstract:Valproic acid(VPA)is used in the clinical treatment of various diseases. However, due to its narrow ther-apeutic window and significant individual differences in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, precise clinical medica-tion faces challenges.Genetic polymorphisms(cytochrome P450 enzyme gene,UDP-glucuronosyltransferase gene mu-tants,and transport-related genes),age, gender, liver and kidney function, and concomitant medications are key factors affecting VPA metabolism, efficacy, and safety. These individual differences have an impact on the pharmacokinetics, blood drug concentration, efficacy, and adverse reactions of VPA.Therefore, individualized treatment plans should be for-mulated based on patient characteristics in clinical practice.
