Abstract:Objective To investigate the predictive value of triglyceride-glucose index(TyG)for mild cognitive im-pairment(MCI)in community-dwelling elderly individuals, aiming to provide a basis for the early identification and pre-vention of MCI in the elderly population at the grassroots level. Methods A total of 286 elderly residents(≥65 years)from the Sanlitun community in Beijing were included.Cognitive function was assessed using the Mini-Mental State Exami-nation(MMSE)and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment(MoCA).General demographic data[age, gender, education lev-el,body mass index(BMI),and number of chronic diseases]and laboratory indicators[fasting plasma glucose(FPG),triglyceride(TG),total cholesterol(TC),and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)]were collected. The TyG in-dex was calculated.Clinical characteristics were compared between the residents with or without MCI.Spearman correla-tion analysis and multivariate Logistic regression were used to explore the relationship between the TyG index and MCI.The predictive performance of the TyG index for MCI was evaluated using the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve. Results Among the 286 participants,91 were diagnosed with MCI,yielding a prevalence of 31.82%.The MCI participants had significantly higher age,BMI,number of chronic diseases,TC,LDL-C,TG,and TyG index levels, and a lower education level than the non-MCI participants(all P<0.05).Spearman correlation analysis showed a positive cor-relation between the TyG index and MCI(r=0.356,P<0.001).Multivariate Logistic regression analysis, after stepwise adjustment for age, gender, education level, the number of chronic diseases,TC,LDL-C,and BMI,revealed that a high-er TyG index remained an independent risk factor for MCI(P<0.001).ROC curve analysis indicated that the area under the curve(AUC)for the TyG index in predicting MCI was 0.710(95%CI:0.643-0.778,P<0.001).Conclusion An elevated TyG index is independently associated with an increased risk of MCI in community-dwelling elderly individuals and shows good predictive value for MCI.
