Abstract:Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of a modified intratragal incision in the surgery for benign tu-mors located in the superior or anterior parts of the parotid gland and the accessory parotid gland. Methods Nine pa-tients with a preliminary diagnosis of benign tumors located in these regions underwent resection surgery via a modified in-tratragal incision. At the 7-10 days postoperative reexaminations, patients were monitored for complications such as sali-vary fistula, facial nerve injury symptoms, earlobe numbness, and incision infection. At the 3-and 6-month postoperative reexaminations, the resolution of postoperative complications and the healing status of the surgical incisions were observed and recorded.Patient satisfaction with the appearance of the incision scars was assessed using a subjective scale-based questionnaire. Results All nine procedures were successfully completed, achieving adequate surgical field exposure and complete tumor resection.None of the patients developed complications such as earlobe numbness, salivary fistula,in-fection,or tumor recurrence. No tumor recurrence occurred during follow-up.Only two patients presented with mild facial nerve injury symptoms postoperatively, manifested as diminished forehead wrinkles and incomplete eye closure, which had substantially resolved 6 months postoperatively. At the six-month postoperative assessment, the tragal incisional scars were virtually invisible from the front and concealed within the medial aspect of the tragus and temporal hairline when ob-served laterally.Subjective scale-based questionnaire results demonstrated unanimous patient satisfaction with the aesthet-ic appearance of the surgical scars. Conclusion For benign tumors located in the superior and anterior parts of superfi-cial parotid gland and accessory parotid gland, the modified intratragal incision provides adequate exposure of the surgical field while achieving favorable aesthetic outcomes, with a low postoperative complication rate and high satisfaction.
