Clinical observation of acupuncture combined with Bushen Qushi decoction in the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome of kidney deficiency and phlegm-dampness type

Abstract：Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture combined with Bushen Qushi decoction in treating polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS)of kidney deficiency and phlegm-dampness type.Methods A total of 246 PCOS patients were randomly divided into the control and treatment groups,with 123 cases in each.Patients in the control group received conventional Western medicine,while patients in the treatment group received additional acupuncture and Bushen Qushi decoction for 3 months.We compared the clinical efficacy and early miscarriage rate after three months of treatment.We also evaluated serum sex hormone-related indicators before and after three months of treatment[serum folli-cle-stimulating hormone(FSH)and luteinizing hormone(LH)measured by chemiluminescence,and serum testosterone(T)and estradiol(E2)measured by electrochemiluminescence],glucose metabolism-related indicators[serum fasting plasma glucose(FPG)measured by the glucose oxidase method,serum fasting insulin(FINS)measured by chemilumines-cence,and the homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance(HOMA-IR)calculated accordingly],the number of an-tral follicles,endometrial thickness,the ovulation rate and pregnancy rate.Results Three cases dropped out in each group.The treatment group showed significantly higher total efficacy(87.50%vs.67.50%,P<0.05),with 42 cured,38 markedly effective,25 effective,and 15 ineffective cases,and those in the control group were 28,31,22,and 39 cases.Compared to pretreatment levels,both groups exhibited increased FSH,E2,antral follicles,and endometrial thickness,and decreased symptom scores(menstrual disorders,obesity,hirsutism,and infertility)and FPG,FINS,HOMA-IR,LH,T,and AMH,with more significant changes in the treatment group(all P<0.05).In the treatment group,the post-treatment ovulation rate was 70.83%,the pregnancy rate was 32.50%,and the early miscarriage rate was 3.33%,while the corresponding rates in the control group were 54.17%,20.83%,and 3.33%,respectively.After treatment,both the ovulation rate and pregnancy rate in the treatment group were significantly higher than those in the control group(both P<0.05).Conclusion Acupuncture combined with Bushen Qushi decoction effectively improves endocrine function,pro-motes ovulation,and enhances pregnancy rates in patients with PCOS of kidney deficiency and phlegm-dampness type.
