Factors influencing fear of disease recurrence and their relationship with illness perception in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis

Abstract:Objective To screen the factors influencing the fear of disease recurrence in patients with pulmonary tu-berculosis(PTB)and to analyze their relationship with the degree of illness perception. Methods A total of 142 PTB pa-tients were selected as the study subjects and were divided into the fear of recurrence group and non-fear of recurrence group based on their scores of the Fear of Progression Questionnaire-Short Form(FoP-Q-SF).General data of the two groups were compared.Logistic regression was used to analyze the influencing factors for fear of disease recurrence. The correlations be-tween FoP-Q-SF scores and the Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire(BIPQ)scores were analyzed. Results Univariate analysis showed that there were statistically significant differences in employment status, education level, monthly family in-come,drug resistance status, and BIPQ scores between PTB patients with and without fear of recurrence(all P<0.05).Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that being unemployed, having an education level of junior high school or below, and a high BIPQ score were risk factors for fear of disease recurrence, while a monthly family income>6,000 RMB and negative drug resistance were protective factors(all P<0.05).The FoP-Q-SF score was positively correlated with the BIPQ score in PTB patients(r=0.719,P<0.05).Conclusions Employment status, education level, monthly family in-come,drug resistance status, and BIPQ score are independent influencing factors for fear of disease recurrence in PTB pa-tients.The degree of fear of disease recurrence is related to the degree of illness perception in these patients.
