Abstract:Objective To investigate the consistency between magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)quantitative tech-nique and arthroscopy in diagnosing acute occult injuries of the lateral meniscus posterior root(LMPR)in the knee joint. Methods Fifty-nine patients with suspected acute occult injury of the posterior root of the lateral meniscus of the knee were enrolled. All patients underwent MRI quantitative technique and arthroscopic examination.Kappa consistency test was used to evaluate the consistency between the two methods. Results MRI quantitative examination showed that the T2 relaxation time quantitative imaging(T2 mapping)values at the tibial attachment of the posterior root of the lateral menis-cus,the middle segment of the posterior root, and the transition between the posterior root and the posterior horn were(79.73±1.26)ms,(74.98±1.34)ms,and(72.31±1.05)ms,respectively.Among them,28 cases(47.46%)had injuries at the tibial attachment,6 cases(10.17%)had injuries at the middle segment of the posterior root, and 25 cases(42.37%)had injuries at the transition between the posterior root and the posterior horn.Arthroscopic examination re-vealed 29 cases(49.15%)of injuries at the tibial attachment,10 cases(16.95%)of injuries at the middle segment of the posterior root, and 20 cases(33.90%)of injuries at the transition between the posterior root and the posterior horn. The consistency analysis showed a Kappa value of 0.787(asymptotic standard error=0.083,approximate Tb=8.012,P=0.000 1).Conclusion MRI quantitative technology has a high consistency with arthroscopic examination in the diagno-sis of acute occult injuries of LMPR.
