Abstract:Objective To compare the efficacy and safety of ultrasound-guided endovenous radiofrequency abla-tion closure and microwave ablation closure in the treatment of great saphenous varicose veins. Methods A total of 300 patients with great saphenous varicose veins were retrospectively collected, including 150 patients who underwent ul-trasound-guided endovenous radiofrequency ablation closure and 150 patients who underwent ultrasound-guided endove-nous microwave ablation closure.Surgical indicators(operation time, intraoperative blood loss, and hospital stay),ve-nous clinical severity score(VCSS)at 6 months postoperatively,GSV closure rates at 14 days and 6 months postopera-tively,recurrence rates at 6 and 12 months postoperatively, complications, and patient satisfaction were compared be-tween the two groups. Results The operation time in the RFA group was shorter than that in the MWA group(P<0.05).There were no significant differences in intraoperative blood loss or hospital stay between the two groups(both P>0.05).No significant difference was found in the preoperative VCSS score between the two groups(P>0.05).At 6 months postoperatively, the VCSS in the RFA group was slightly lower than that in the MWA group, but the difference was not statistically significant(P>0.05).At 14 days postoperatively, the GSV closure rate was 97.33%in the RFA group and 96.67%in the MWA group;at 6 months, the closure rates were 94.00%and 92.67%,respectively;there were no significant differences in GSV closure rates between the two groups(all P>0.05).The recurrence rates at 6 and 12 months postoperatively showed no statistically significant differences between the two groups(both P>0.05).The main complications in both groups were saphenous nerve injury and infection. In the RFA group,3 patients(2.00%)experienced complications, all of which were saphenous nerve injuries. In the MWA group,7 patients(4.67%)devel-oped complications, including 5 cases of saphenous nerve injury and 2 cases of infection along the course of the GSV.The incidence of complications was significantly lower in the RFA group than in the MWA group(P<0.05).Patient sat-isfaction rates were 100%in the RFA group and 98%in the MWA group, with no significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion The efficacy of ultrasound-guided endovenous radiofrequency ablation closure and mi-crowave ablation closure for the treatment of great saphenous varicose veins is comparable;however,ultrasound-guided endovenous radiofrequency ablation closure is associated with shorter procedure time and fewer complications compared to microwave ablation closure.
