Analysis of death cases of hospitalized patients with malignant tumor in a Grade-A tertiary general hospital in the context of DRGs

Abstract:Objective To analyze the characteristics of malignant tumor deaths in a Grade-A tertiary general hospi-tal in Shandong Province under the background of disease diagnosis-related groups(DRGs),so as to provide a basis for tu-mor prevention,rational allocation of medical resources and hospital management.Methods With the help of the hospi-tal medical record management system,the medical record data of hospitalized malignant tumor death cases from 2019 to 2023 in a Grade-A tertiary general hospital in Shandong Province were obtained.From January 1,2019 to December 31,2023,a total of 14,601 malignant tumor patients were hospitalized in the hospital,and 1,233(8.44%)died.Data on age,sex,discharge diagnosis,hospitalization time,hospitalization cost,and discharge transfer of deaths were collected,and the distribution of deaths was summarized and analyzed.Results The proportion of deaths in all hospitalized malig-nancy patients from 2019 to 2023 increased.Among the annual deaths,the proportion of men was higher than that of wom-en(P<0.05);among all age groups,the proportion of death cases was higher in those over 40 years old,with the highest proportion observed in the 61-70 years old age group(all P<0.05).The top 10 dead tumors were lung cancer,liver can-cer,gastric cancer,esophageal cancer,pancreatic cancer,colon cancer,myeloid leukemia,rectal cancer,breast can-cer,bile duct and biliary tract cancer.From 2019 to 2023,the hospitalization time and hospitalization cost of hospitalized deaths of malignant tumors showed a decreasing trend year by year(both P<0.05).Conclusions From 2019 to 2023,the proportion of deaths of malignant tumors in the Grade-A tertiary general hospital increased,and the proportion of deaths in males was generally higher than that in females,with the highest proportion in the 61-70 years old age group,and common tumors were lung cancer,liver cancer,gastric cancer and esophageal cancer,etc.In the context of DRGs,the hospitalization time and hospitalization cost of deaths of malignant tumors decreased.
