Abstract:Objective To observe the risk factors for posttraumatic acute diffuse brain swelling (PADBS) in patients with traumatic brain injury .Methods Totally 98 patients with traumatic brain injury including 22 cases of PADBS patients (PADBS group) and 76 cases of patients without PADBS (control group) were analyzed retrospectively. The patients'age, gender , time from injury to the treatment and other risk factors were analyzed .The potential risk factors associated with PADBS in patients with traumatic brain injury were evaluated by the method of logistic regression .Results Binary condi-tional logistic regression analysis showed that the period of time before treatment >3 h (OR=2.36, P=0.018), hypoten-sion shock (OR=3.23, P=0.031) and primary brainstem injury (OR=3.69, P=0.025) were independent risk factors for PADBS in patients with traumatic brain injury .Conclusion The delayed treatment (the period of time before treatment>3 h) , hypotension shock and primary brainstem injury were risk factors for PADBS .
