Abstract:Objective To detect and compare the changes of transform growth factor β1 (TGFβ1),α-SMA, smad4 protein, vascular endothelial growth factor ( VEGF) and microvessel density ( MVD) in the normal esophageal tissues, low-grade intraepithelial neoplasia ( LGIEN) , high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia ( HGIEN) , early esophageal cancer and ad-vanced esophageal cancer tissues. Methods Twenty cases of normal esophageal tissue specimens ( NC group) , 30 cases of LGIEN specimens ( LGIEN group) , 50 cases of HGIEN specimens, 25 cases of early esophageal cancer specimens ( CIS group) and 25 cases of advanced esophageal cancer specimens (SCC group) were selected. The expression of TGFβ1,α-SMA, smad4 and VEGF protein in each group was detected by immunohistochemistry, and the MVD was determined by Antibody CD34.Results From NC group to SCC group, the positive expression rates of α-SMA, TGFβ1 and VEGF and MVD were gradually increased (all P<0.05);the positive expression rate of smad4 protein was gradually decreased (all P<0.05);and the positive expression rate of TGFβ1 was first increased and then decreased, and the CIS group was the highest (all P<0.05).Conclusions In the course of the development of esophageal cancer from normal esophagus to ad-vanced stage, the phenotype and function of esophageal stromal fibroblasts change, and TGF β1/smad4 protein pathway and angiogenesis may play an important role in the protein pathway.
