Abstract:Objective To investigate the serum homocysteine ( Hcy ) levels in Kazak H-type hypertensive patients with different sex, age and hypertension grades. Methods The clinical data from 260 cases of H-type hypertensive pa-tients were collected and their blood biochemistry was examined. The levels of Hcy were tested using high-performance liq-uid chromatography ( HPLC) analysis and their distribution characteristics were statistically analyzed. Results Overall, the serum levels of Hcy were higher in male than in female ( P<0.05);By age stratification, the serum levels of Hcy ele-vated with the increased age, except for those with the age 45-54 years;for patients with the age≤44 years, 55-64 years and ≥65 years, their serum levels of Hcy were all higher in male than in female (all P<0.05).The serum levels of Hcy in male were distributed in high levels (>15 μmol/L) , and only in those of female with the age >65 years, their serum levels of Hcy were distributed in high levels. As for patients with 2 and 3 hypertension, serum Hcy levels in male were also higher than in female (all P<0.05).Conclusion Serum Hcy level in Kazakh H-type hypertensive patients showed a skewed distribution and this distribution was correlated with the clinical characteristics of patients.
