Inhibiting wood and strengthening earth in treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus complicating depression:A meta-analysis

Abstract：Objective To systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of inhibiting wood and strengthening earth in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus complicating depression.Methods The randomized clinical trials (RCTs) of literatures on efficacies of combined treatment of traditional Chinese medicine of inhibiting wood and strengthening earth and western medicine and simply western medicine in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus complicating depression were retrieved by searching EM-BASE, MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, CBM, CNKI, WanFang Date and VIP Database by using inhibiting wood, strengthening earth, type 2 diabetes mellitus complicating depression as the Chinese and English key words.The studies were extracted the fea-ture information.Analysis was performed to use Meta Revman5.3 software on the efficacy of combined treatment of traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus complicating depression.We compared the glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), TCM syndrome score, self-rating depression scale (SDS) and Hamilton depression scale (HAMD) scores.Results Eight RCTs were analyzed.The HbA1c(95%CI -0.45--0.07, P<0.01) and traditional Chi-nese medicine syndrome score (95%CI -3.24--1.07, P<0.01), SDS (95%CI -5.69--3.05, P<0.01), and HAMD (95%CI -3.93--2.05, P<0.01) of inhibiting wood and strengthening earth in treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus compli-cating depression were better than those of simply using Western medicine, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion The HbA1c and traditional Chinese medicine syndrome score of inhibiting wood and strengthening earth in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus complicating depression were better than those of using Western medicine alone.
