Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of preoperatively cardiopulmonary exercise training on the cardiopul -monary function and postoperative complications in lung cancer patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease ( COPD) .Methods Ninety-eight lung cancer patients with COPD who would receive lung cancer resection were randomly divided into two groups:the observation group and the control group , 49 cases in each group .Both groups were treated to improve the lung function before surgery , and the observation group was treated with cardiopulmonary exercise training for two weeks .The indicators of static lung function and dynamic cardiopulmonary exercise were compared between the two groups the day before surgery .The differences of postoperative complications , duration of oxygen therapy , mechanical ven-tilation and length of hospital stay were compared between the two groups .Results In the observation group , FVC, MVV, DL CO, VO2 max, VO2/kg, AT, O2 pulse and VEmax were improved to varying degrees as compared with those in the con-trol group (all P<0.05).Significant differences were found in the incidences of the overall postoperative cardiopulmonary complications and individual complications , the time of postoperative oxygen therapy , mechanical ventilation and length of hospital stay between the two groups (all P<0.05).Conclusions Preoperative cardiopulmonary exercise training can im-prove heart and lung functions in the lung cancer patients with COPD .Meanwhile , it may reduce postoperative complica-tions, shorten the hospital stay and help the patients to recover soon .
