Relationships of EMMPRIN and MMP-2 expression changes with coronary arteriosclerosis in peripheral blood monocytes of patients with coronary heart disease

Abstract：Objective To observe the extracellular matrix metalloproteinase inducer ( EMMPRIN) and matrix metallo-proteinase 2 ( MMP-2) expression changes in the peripheral blood monocytes of patients with coronary heart disease , and to discuss their correlations with coronary arteriosclerosis .Methods A total of 153 patients diagnosed as coronary heart dis-ease were divided into the stable angina pectoris group (SAP group, 86 patients) and the acute coronary syndrome group ( ACS group , 67 patients ) , and another 37 normal healthy volunteers were selected as the normal control group ( NC group) .The EMMPRIN and MMP-2 expression at protein and mRNA levels in the peripheral blood monocytes of the three groups were detected by Western blotting and qRT-PCR.The correlations of EMMPRIN mRNA and MMP-2 mRNA with ar-teriosclerosis plaque grade and coronary angiography types were analyzed .Results EMMPRIN and MMP-2 expression in the ACS group and SAP group was higher than that of the NC group at protein and mRNA levels (all P<0.05).The EMMPRIN mRNA and MMP-2 mRNA expression in the ACS group and SAP group was correlated with arteriosclerosis plaque grade and coronary angiography types (r=0.341, 0.391, 0.275 and 0.142, respectively; all P<0.05).The EMMPRIN mRNA and MMP-2 mRNA expression was higher in the soft plaque and typeⅡpathological changes of the ACS group and SAP group .Conclusions The EMMRPIN and MMP-2 expression in the peripheral blood monocytes is up-regu-lated in patients with coronary heart disease , and they were correlated with the occurrence and development of coronary ar-teriosclerosis.
