Differential expression of HER2 gene in Xinjiang Uygur and Han ethnic groups in patients with gastric cancer and its effect on prognosis

Abstract：Objective To investigate the correlation between HER 2 gene expression and clinicopathological character-istics of gastric carcinoma cases in the Uighurs and Han nationality in Xinjiang .Methods HER2 gene expression was ex-amined by immunohistochemistry and fluorescence in situ hybridization in 160 gastric adenocarcinoma specimens .Results The positive rate of HER2 gene overespression was 10.00%(16/160) which was 15.38%(8/52)and 7.41%(8/108) in the Uighurs and Han nationality respectively .HER2 gene overespression was associated with tumor location ,lauren and differentiation (all P<0.05), but not with sex, age, nationality, tumor size, tumor diameter, pathological type, TNM stage, invasion depth, lymph node metastasis,distant metastasis, neural invasion, lymphatic or thrombus, anemia and car-cinoembryonic antigen (all P>0.05).Conclusion Detection of HER2 gene expression may be used to assess the malig-nant biological behavior and prognosis of gastric cancer in the Uighurs and Han nationality in Xinjiang .
