Abstract:Objective To investigate the association between interleukin-6 ( IL-6 ) gene promoter SNP 174 polymor-phism and tuberculosis susceptibility .Methods Databases including PubMed , MEDLINE and EMbase data were searched to collect the published case-control studies .According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria , the studies were screened and the data were extracted .The method quality of included studies were evaluated .Then meta-analysis was conducted by using Stata 12.0 sotware. The pooled odds ratio (ORs) with 95%conidence interval (CI) were calculated and the sensi-tivity and publication bias were evaluated at the same time .Results A total of 7 studies were included , which involved 1 138 cases and 1 311 healthy controls. The results of meta-analysis showed the IL-6-174C/G polymorphism might be associ-ated with a decreased risk of TB (C vs.G:OR=0.77, 95%CI:0.64-0.91;CC vs.GG: OR=0.72, 95% CI:0.57-0.90;CC+CG vs.GG:OR=0.71, 95%CI:0.57-0.88).In the stratified analysis by ethnicity, significantly decreased risk of TB was associated with Asians for IL-6 -174 C/G polymorphism in C allele vs .G allele, CC vs.GG and CC+CG vs.GG.All of the included studies showed no publication bias by Begg 's and Egger's test. Conclusions IL-6 -174C/G polymorphism in allele G might be a genetic risk factor which increase TB susceptibility in Asians .
