Abstract:Objective To observe the expression changes of S 100 A9 protein ( myeloid-related protein-14 ) in human gastric cancer tissues, and to explore the relationship between S100A9 and clinicopathological features of gastric cancer . Methods Eighty-two cases of gastric cancer tissue samples ( gastric cancer group ) and 82 cases of paired adjacent tissues (control group) were chosen. The expression of S100A9 protein in the two groups was detected by immunohistochemistrial SP method, and we analyzed its relationship with patients'gender, age, depth of tumor invasion, degree of cell differentia-tion, lymph node metastasis , tumor stage and tumor size .Results The positive expression rate of S 100 A9 protein in the gastric cancer group was 59.8% (49/82), while 6.1% (5/82) in the control group. The positive expression rate of S100A9 in the gastric cancer group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.05).The expression of S100A9 in stage T3 and T4, in poorly differentiated , in pathological staging Ⅲ+Ⅳ and with lymph node metastasis was higher than that of patients in stage T 1 and T2, in highly and moderately differentiated , in pathological staging I +II and without lymph node metastasis (all P<0.05).Conclusion The expression of S100A9 protein is significantly up-regula-ted in gastric cancer tissues , and is associated with lymph node metastasis , depth of tumor invasion , clinical stage and de-gree of differentiation .
